The National Council for the Child is a partner in the Mehalev Initiative, which was established to prevent the abuse and neglect of children in Israel and to improve the ways in which authorities and professionals handle the phenomenon.
The Mehalev Initiative was established in 2015 in cooperation with the Haruv Institute, EBS Israel headed by Gil Mendelis, the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, Myers JDC Brookdale Institute, the BCG Global Management Consulting, and the NCC.
The initiative was established and developed in response to a research indicating that 1 out of 5 children in Israel experiences abuse and neglect.
The NCC, together with its partners, sought to raise awareness of the phenomenon among the public and policymakers, and take action to prevent child abuse and neglect. In the framework of its partnership in the Mehalev Initiative, the NCC acts to set the public agenda in all matters related to child abuse and neglect and to raise awareness to the phenomenon, as well as to promote and formulate appropriate legislation in this field, in order to ensure the protection of children, and safeguard their rights.
